The Aze-Ashani (the 'z' in 'aze' is pronounced like the 's' in 'pleasure') are the four chief deities venerated by the Ashani peoples.

Following with the culture and philosophy of those people, each of the four Aze is associated with one of the four elements. The Gods, and their portfolios, are as follows:

RAMANAATH is the Lord of Air, and rules over wind, clouds, inspiration, communication and creativity. He emphasizes peace, harmony, and balance in all things.

ALINAR is the Lord of Fire, and also rules warfare, passion, will, light and life. He is justice, and emphasizes compassion for the weak, but also renewal through pain, just as a forest fire renews plant life.

ALQAWEN, most beloved of the four, is Lady of the Waters and rules over dreams, wisdom, emotion, love, peace and joy. Insight and the ability to weave many things into one are hers.

KEMADHWEN, Lady of Earth, also rules over animals, agriculture, security, and strength. Stability and foresight are her gifts.

Each of the four rules over lesser spirits attached to their element.

Ashani art will at times portray the Aze-Ashani in humanoid forms; Alqawen as a Silashani, Ramanaath as a Rendashani, and so on. However purer depictions as the element themselves are also common--Alinar as a burning fire, for example.
